Tastemaker: Melon Quinzon Perez
Filmmaker
Filipina filmmaker Melon Quinzon Peres’ passion for storytelling has led to creating wonderful tales for the people whose lives she has touched.
Through her grit and determination as a thriving photographer and videographer, she established her own venture MelRish Studio ten years ago, with her husband Arish Perez. Starting out in the wedding photography circuit, she has built a body of commercial work which includes projects for the World Road Congress, the Special Olympics Global Youth Leadership Summit, Expo Science 2019, Ikea, Arabian Ventures, the Mandarin Oriental and more. For 2020, the studio has hit the ground running as an official partner for Arte Pilipinas.
More than just her commercial undertakings, it’s her short films that have captured the attention of the creative fraternity in the UAE. She has won several awards and recognitions, winning the ESFF (Emirates Short Film Festival) Best Director in 2017 and 2018 while also being recognized for the 2017 London Monthly Film Festival. In 2019, she was also recognized by the Film Development Council of the Philippines.
“My hope for the Filipino people is that we all succeed in the paths we choose. I hope that each and everyone encourages each other, not bash each other.” She says, now working on more ways to bring the collective success of Filipinos to the big and small screen.
